Professional Interests

I enjoy working with all aspects of mental health and psychological difficulties and all kinds of people, including children and young people. I get to know people as individuals with strengths of their own (not just a label, ‘problem’ or diagnosis) and tailor our work together accordingly. I have particular interests in the following areas:

  • Post-disaster and post-trauma work including PTSD but also:
  • bereavement
  • other forms of loss
  • childhood abuse and/or those traumatised by the care system
  • adoption
  • bullying

  • People burdened by guilt – I completed a study project / dissertation about how CBT can help reduce guilt during my diploma course in 2005 (because I had noticed how often it seems to be part of people’s unhappiness or anxiety).

  • Military veterans. I was the project lead for supporting ex-services personnel in IAPT, Buckinghamshire and had specialist training in this area. I grew up as a 'servce child' and have since worked with a variety of veterans and also others affected by their roles in war zones and terrorist attacks. I have also treated staff affected by their work in the emergency services

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) because it is a useful treatment for many kinds and levels of trauma, including lesser traumas that may be underpinning various difficulties, such as phobias.
